FMP Man-made and natural form, primary research

Museum of Science and Industry

My project is about man-made and natural organic form, I wanted to assemble  this two subjects and create textile and surface pattern. Its obvious that I had to revisited M.S.I due to its enormous collection of machinery, I was there before for previous brief and I felt very connected with this place. Therefore, I found lots of machines different sizes, colors and functions, machines gears  which what most caught  my eyes.

To me, these gears were not just a wheels on the machines, I was passionate for their function, how they mesh with another, making machines work and their age. Because they were made since 1808-90,all theses factors lead me to take some consideration. I felt like they had something special to look at and be inspired to create something interesting , I know it seems weird but is what I felt when I saw them on the museum.

Sketches

Love the shape, size even the colour. The machines are ancient, and it is impressive they were well looked after. So I have drawn different types of machines gears, using other techniques drawing in my sketchbook.

Different drawings using Acrylic, pencil, black ballpoint pen and chalk, very interesting how they look. I will then look at relevant elements in these drawings for my starting point.

Attractive drawing soft pastel on sketchbook.
The original painting "Summer in Cumberland" 1924-5 by James Durben oil on canvas, the small picture on the left. Manchester art gallery.

Bottom right Acrylic on sketchbook my response of John Everette Millais 1829-1896" Winter fuel" 1873  oil on canvas,  top small picture. Manchester art gallery.
On the top left is a small picture, "The last of the Garrison" 1875, oil on canvas and bottom acrylic paint on sketchbook.

A natural form was found in a park near my residence and some images from the internet. I found snowflakes very interesting to look at and have explored their shape and form. On the right smalls, snowflakes are crocheted.

Sketching machines gears using different techniques, Acrylic on board and diverse tone brush, I love how they look.
